Business News: Apple Finds Safety Violations at Supplier From China

Apple has performed audits of it's manufacturing suppliers from China in recent business news, and what they have uncovered is disturbing. The audits of several facilities in China found numerous labor, safety and other violations in 2010. Underage workers and mishandling of dangerous chemicals were two of the most egregious violations cited. The audits were conducted on a total of 127 facilities, where they turned up 91 underage workers. 42 of these underage workers were all at one factory with which Apple has since stopped doing business.

It was also revealed that dozens of workers had been poisoned by mishandling of dangerous chemicals at Wintek, an Apple supplier. Based on these findings, Apple is ordering immediate changes related to how hazardous chemicals are handled at 80 of its Chinese suppliers. The company is also demanding that it's suppliers reimburse millions in excess charges by employment agencies that were hired to source migrant workers from neighbouring countries.
